Esiason and Young
[edit]The article said:
"Arguably the most prolific left-handed quarterback in NFL history (Pro Football Hall of Fame member Steve Young — the first left-handed quarterback to be inducted — actually ranks below him in many statistical categories)"
I edited this. I changed it to "among the most prolfiic" and removed the Steve Young reference because his statisitcs are indeed good. However, this statement has a number of problems.
First of all, there is no need to make a contentious statment that is open to argument about the quality of the two. Second, Steve Young played a full 18 games less than Boomer, making it hard to compare the two side by side.
Third, it is not entirely true. The wording of the statement would lead one to believe that Boomer outranks Young vastly, due to the statement about "many categories."
Boomer has more Completions, Attempts, Yards and TDs, sure (4 categories). He ranks below Young in: carries, rushing yards, rushing TDs, yards per pass attempt, QB rating, completion percentage, every post season category, pro bowls, MVP awards, and Super Bowl appearances and wins. And he threw more interceptions. This is more than 12 categories. 4 is hardly "many" when compared to 12.
So, while it is acceptable to indicate Boomer's quality at his position, as a lefty, and his statistical achievements are nice, stating in this manner is not only misleading but unneccessary.

Super Bowl
[edit]Whereas I was bemused by the statement "summarily drubbed by the 49ers) not only is that an emotional POV, it's also grossly incorrect. The Bengal's margin of loss (in XVI & XXIII), being 4.5pt ave, was dramatically less than the others in the 49er's dynastic period (average 30 pt loses).
For that I will remove the statement. But I chuckled a bit inside.
I also updated the fact that Boomer retired as a Bengal. His last play, EVAH, being a 77 yard TD play-action pass to Darnay Scott.

- Yes, that statement was completely wrong. The Bengals gave the 49ers their best challenge in the SB, both times. The 49ers won in the last minute in SB XXIII. It was a very close game. The Bengals were shut down on offense, with their only touchdown coming from a kickoff return, but their defense was awesome and kept the game close. In the earlier game (in which Boomer was not the QB), the Bengals came from 20 down to make it close. Very respectable. -- Decumanus 16:00, 17 Aug 2004 (UTC)

What kind of "personal conflct"?
[edit]"He was a color commentator for ABC's Monday Night Football from 1998 to 2000. Following his dismissal by ABC (due primarily to personal conflicts between him and play-by-play announcer Al Michaels)"
Can someone please research a bit further into this? Not a single Wiki page that brings up that the two had personal issues between each other goes into any more detail than this as to what exactly they couldn't get along about. Was it just general douchebaggery with one of the two that the other couldn't stand? Was it some opinion that one person held that the other couldn't wrap their head around that they also found to be an uncalled for opinion to hold? Was it something Al said about Boomer during his football career that made Boomer not even want to be alongside him to begin with? What was the big deal here, because it had led to ABC firing Boomer because of it. Someone needs to find some sort of creditable reference to just what happened. Quotes would be nice. Just SOMETHING other than "oh, they couldn't get along, so we fired someone and kept the other", because it makes little sense for someone to just randomly hate someone else without any rhyme or reason.
